First Aid/CPR/AED Certifications Course

In the American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Certifications course, you can learn:
- How to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants.
- The information and skills necessary to help sustain life in an emergency and minimize the pain and consequences of injury or sudden illness until professional medical help arrives.
How to Take the Course
Here are the basic details for taking the course:
- It is available upon request, but it requires a minimum of five participants to be conducted.
- To arrange for a class, contact Recreation & Wellness at least two weeks prior to the date when you would like the class to begin.
- Payment is due at the time of registration.
- Materials for the course are sent as a PDF via email to all registered individuals no later than the Friday before the first class begins.
- The manual for the class is offered directly from the American Red Cross for a separate fee. However, if you do not wish to purchase a hard copy of the manual, you are encouraged to bring a laptop or tablet on which you can view the materials.

Lifeguard Certification and Recertification

We offer both lifeguard certification and recertification courses. However, we do require a minimum of five people to sign up for a class in order to conduct the course.

This blended learning course teaches you the skills you’ll need to guard at an aquatic facility. Upon completion of the class, successful participants will receive Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid certifications.
Absence from any of the classes will result in a failure of the course and forfeiture of the registration fee. Furthermore, instructors are not permitted to make up missed material with participants.
How to Take the Course
Prerequisites: You must be at least 16 years of age and pass a pre-course swimming test.
Materials: Upon registration, lifeguard training books and pocket masks are provided. You will also be sent instructions for online training. You are expected to bring your own swimsuit and be ready to enter the water each day.
Registration Deadline: Registration (with payment) must be completed the Friday before the course begins to allow enough time to complete the online training and swimming test.
Total Time: 20 hours
Location: Classes are held in the classroom (or online) and in the pool.
