Moon and Bassitt earn trips to Outdoor Worlds in Hungary

Katie Moon is used to winning championships, and another one came to fruition on Sunday (July 9) night in Eugene, Oregon.
 
Moon, the former Ashland University track and field NCAA Division II All-American who is the top-rated outdoor women's pole vaulter in the world, won the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships title in the event on Sunday night with a new season-best and world-leading showing of 4.90 meters/16-feet-0¾.
 
This comes after Moon won the women's pole vault at the 2023 USATF Indoor Championships.
 
With the victory, Moon will go on to compete for Team USA at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, Aug. 19-27 in Budapest, Hungary.
 
The 2021 Summer Olympics gold medalist in the women's pole vault for Team USA, Moon won two NCAA Division II national titles and was a three-time D-II All-American in two years as an Eagle. She won a gold medal in the women's pole vault at the 2022 World Athletics Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, and a silver medal at the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
 
Joining Moon on Team USA in Budapest is another former Eagle standout, Trevor Bassitt, who finished third in the finals of the men's 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 48.26 seconds. Bassitt is the No. 6-ranked men's 400 hurdler in the world by World Athletics.
 
Bassitt concluded his Eagle career with 10 NCAA Division II national championships and 21 D-II All-American honors individually, and as a key cog in three D-II team national titles. In 2022, he won a World Athletics outdoor gold medal in the men's 4x400 relay, and a World Athletics outdoor bronze medal in the men's 400 hurdles.
