Kyle Hauenstein named director of marketing and communications at AU
ASHLAND, Ohio – Kyle Hauenstein, a marketing leader at The Sherwin-Williams Company, has been selected as the new director of marketing and communications at Ashland University. He will officially begin his duties Jan. 3, 2025.
“Kyle brings an abundant expertise in multi-platform marketing and branding to our nationally distinctive university,” said President Jon Parrish Peede. “We wanted a team leader who is cerebral, collaborative and committed to our mission and values. And, we firmly believe that Kyle has these very qualities.”
Hauenstein will provide oversight for all aspects of the university’s marketing and communications efforts, including advertising and marketing, graphic design and printing, public and media relations, multimedia and photography, social media, and web content and design. The department’s goal is to increase AU’s visibility, brand awareness, reputation and engagement with key internal and external partners, stakeholders, suppliers and vendors, with an emphasis on prospective students.
"We're excited to have Kyle join the enrollment management leadership team at AU. His leadership experience and commitment to excellence will help us to raise the bar in marketing and communications," said Keith Ramsdell, vice president for enrollment management and marketing.
During the last decade-plus at Sherwin-Williams, a global leader in the manufacturing, development and sale of paint, coatings and related products, Hauenstein held a number of marketing-related positions. Most recently, he was marketing director for marketing technology and customer engagement. In that role, he helped drive new business growth and customer loyalty, while leading a team of product managers and marketing professionals.
Hauenstein’s new position marks a homecoming of sorts, as he and his wife, Natalie, grew up in Ashland and now reside close to the campus. They have three young children together and are active in the community. He is a member of the leadership board at Park Street Brethren Church and part of the administrative team for Ashland Volleyball Club where his wife is the club director.
“I am truly excited to get started. This community is where I am raising my family, and I know it is a better place when the university is strong and thriving,” said Hauenstein.
Hauenstein holds a bachelor’s degree from Baldwin Wallace University, where he majored in marketing with a minor in management.
