Iron Toys to perform recital Sunday night, Nov. 7
ASHLAND, Ohio – The Ashland University Department of Music presents a guest artist recital by Iron Toys on Sunday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m., in the Elizabeth Pastor Recital Hall inside the Center for the Arts. The event is free and open to the public. Face masks are required for all audience members.
The recital will include compositions by Howie Smith, Rich Shanklin, Duke Ellington, Paquito D’Rivera, Eliane Elias and Astor Piazzolla.
Iron Toys is a saxophone and woodwind quartet, founded in 2004, that plays music in a range of jazz and contemporary classical styles on multiple woodwind instruments. The members include Tom Reed, Howie Smith, Brad Wagner and George Shernit. All are leading musicians in Ohio and have performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, Playhouse Square and a wide range of other ensembles. Their CD, “Iron Toys,” was released in 2015.
