AU’s student-run radio station holding “Vinylthon” April 22-23
April 21, 2022 ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University’s award-winning, student-run radio station, 88.9 FM WRDL, will be participating in the annual “Vinylthon” celebration this Friday and Saturday, April 22-23.
“This year, WRDL will be celebrating its fifth anniversary of ‘Vinylthon’ and will be playing 29 hours of only vinyl records,” explained Derek Wood, faculty advisor and general manager of WRDL. “In years past, WRDL has played 24 consecutive hours of vinyl records, but is adding five extra hours to celebrate five years of ‘Vinylthon’ on WRDL.”
“Vinylthon” is an annual event organized by the College Radio Foundation, a non-profit charity in New Jersey. The College Radio Foundation also organizes College Radio Day each fall. “Vinylthon” is held to celebrate the unique format of vinyl by broadcasting shows from vinyl only.
WRDL will kick off this year’s celebration on Friday, April 22, at 7 p.m., and will be playing only vinyl records all the way until midnight on Saturday, April 23. Radio stations that spin at least 12 hours of vinyl records are given the Golden Slipmat Award. WRDL has earned the honor four times previously for playing 24 consecutive hours of vinyl records.
WRDL can be heard in 10 counties across north-central Ohio and can be streamed live to any device at www.wrdlfm.com. More information on Vinylthon can be found online at www.vinylthon.com.
