AU’s student-run radio station celebrating “Vinylthon” April 22-23
ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University’s award-winning, student-run radio station, 88.9 FM WRDL, will be participating in the annual “Vinylthon” celebration this Friday and Saturday, April 22-23.
“This year, WRDL will be celebrating its sixth anniversary of ‘Vinylthon’ and will be playing 48 hours of only vinyl records,” explained Derek Wood, faculty advisor and general manager of WRDL. “In years past, WRDL has played 24 consecutive hours of vinyl records and is excited to add another full day of music on vinyl for this historic event.”
“Vinylthon” is an annual event organized by the College Radio Foundation, a non-profit charity in New Jersey. The College Radio Foundation also organizes College Radio Day each fall. “Vinylthon” is held to celebrate the unique format of vinyl by broadcasting shows from vinyl only. This year’s event is the first weekend event, encouraging stations to go for 48 hours.
WRDL will kick off this year’s celebration on Saturday, April 23, at midnight, and will be playing only vinyl records through Sunday, April 23, at 11:59 p.m. Radio stations that spin 24 hours of vinyl records are given the Golden Slipmat Award. Previously, WRDL has earned the honor five times. An additional award is being given to stations that play 48 hours of vinyl records.
WRDL can be heard in 10 counties across north-central Ohio and can be streamed live at www.wrdlfm.com. More information on Vinylthon can be found at www.vinylthon.com.
