ASHLAND, Ohio – The Coburn Gallery at Ashland University will be hosting a semester-closing “Senior Art + Design Exhibition” from Thursday, Dec. 1, through Saturday, Dec. 17, featuring the capstone experience for graduating art and design students Nathan Langdon, Joel Steiner and Bo Haoran. On Dec. 1, there will be an opening reception from 4:30-6:30 p.m., at the gallery, located in the Center for the Arts building on the AU campus. This event is free and open to the public.

“While the 2022 ‘Senior Art + Design Exhibition’ provides the capstone experience for graduating art majors, it represents more than just students’ studio art experiences,” said Cynthia Petry, director of the Coburn Gallery. “For the student in the liberal arts, the exhibition is the culmination of their undergraduate career at Ashland University.”

This fall’s exhibition includes illustration, digital art, video work and graphic design from the exhibiting seniors.

Langdon, an Ashland resident, is set to complete degrees in fine arts (concentrations in digital art and graphic design) and digital media production. At AU, he has been active as the video and graphics producer of the campus television station and the head of the creative services team. Langdon won the “Best Display” award during this past spring’s student art exhibition. He has gained additional design experience through internships with the AU men’s basketball team and with local film company Good Deed Entertainment as a visual effects artist, editor and marketing assistant. Langdon plans to begin a career in the motion graphics industry.

Steiner, from Orrville, Ohio, will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design. He has worked on and participated in two AU student juried shows and won “Best in Show” and “Honorable Mention” recognition. He also interned at Vinyl Marketing this past summer before taking up another internship with WPG this fall. Upon graduation, Steiner hopes to find a job with a company or agency in Ohio where he can continue designing and creating.

Haoran came to Ashland from Beijing, China, and plans to graduate in December with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design. He previously was a UI design intern at Beijing Yiche Interactive Advertising Co., Ltd., designing auto show advertisements and car purchase financial plans for various auto companies. He also served as an advertising designer for New York Global this semester. After graduation, Haoran intends to intern for an American design company for one year and then go back to Beijing.

The Coburn Gallery is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays and noon-4 p.m. on weekends. Gallery admission is free and open to the public. For more information about the exhibition, call 419-289-5652 or visit the gallery’s Facebook page
