ASHLAND, Ohio – The Ashland University Jazz Orchestra continues its 2024-25 season with a “Jazz at the Nest” performance on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m., at the Eagle’s Nest inside the Hawkins-Conard Student Center. The event is free and open to the public.

This concert will showcase some of big band’s greatest contributors, as the AUJO plays selections from the Count Basie library as well as Terry Gibbs, Woody Herman, Bob Florence, Frank Mantooth, Pat Metheny and Bobby Timmons.

Following “Jazz at the Nest,” Scott Garlock, the director of the award-winning ensemble and a professor of music at AU, will be taking the AUJO to the Chicago area to participate in the 58th annual Elmhurst College Jazz Festival. The festival brings together legendary jazz performers and student musicians, while serving as a forum for jazz education. The AUJO will perform there Saturday, Feb. 22.

The AUJO has been providing the AU campus and greater Ashland community with diverse jazz programming and internationally recognized jazz artists for more than 50 years. The ensemble consists of various saxophone, trombone, trumpet and rhythm instruments played by both music and non-music majors.
