AUJO and alumni members will perform annual seasonal concert on Dec. 7
ASHLAND, Ohio – The Ashland University Jazz Orchestra (AUJO), as well as a group of its alumni members, will be presenting its annual seasonal concert Thursday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m., in the Hugo Young Theatre of the Center for the Arts. The event is free and open to the public.
The AUJO is preparing for a trip to the Catalan region of Spain during the university’s spring break and will play several selections that it will perform there, along with some holiday favorites. Among those featured will be “Man with the Bag,” “Away in a Manger” and tunes by American composers Sammy Nestico, Horace Silver, Scott Garlock and others.
Garlock is the director of the AUJO and a professor of music at AU. He looks forward to this reunion and concert each year, noting that “the alumni group brings together members from as far back as the 1970s to recent graduates” and adds to a “very spirited performance.”
The AUJO has been providing the AU campus and greater Ashland community with diverse jazz programming and internationally recognized jazz artists for more than 50 years. The ensemble consists of various saxophone, trombone, trumpet and rhythm instruments played by both music and non-music majors.
