ASHLAND, Ohio – The department of theatre at Ashland University opens its 2021-22 season with “She Kills Monsters” by Qui Nguyen this Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 4-7. All performances will take place at the Hugo Young Theatre, with the Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows beginning at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday’s matinee at 2 p.m.

“She Kills Monsters,” directed by Teresa Durbin-Ames, an associate professor of theatre at Ashland, and co-sponsored by AU Eagles for Pride, tells the story of a young woman, named Agnes Evans and played by Katie Snell, as she prepares to leave her childhood home in Athens, Ohio, two years after the tragic death of her sister, Tilly, played by Bethany Double. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, it sends her stumbling into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure. Tilly escaped into a fantasy world to find her place; Agnes’ adventures in Tilly’s imaginary world will help her to find her place in reality.

The play, described as a comedic romp that offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within each of us, contains adult language and subject matter related to high school bullying.
