AU grad Travis Apple named chief revenue officer at ticketing platform for live event industry
Go above and beyond.
That is the advice Ashland University graduate Travis Apple offers today’s AU students.
“If you are asked to get one internship, find a way to get multiple internships and real-life experience through job shadowing,” said the 2007 AU grad who triple-majored in sports communication, journalism and electronic media production. “Any industry you decide to go into is going to be competitive, and hiring managers want to see who truly is willing to go above and beyond the call of duty (not the video game).”
Since coming to Ashland in 2003 and then going out into the “real world,” Apple has been following his own advice.
He has written a book, hosts a weekly podcast and was recently named the chief revenue officer for Logitix, a ticketing platform for the live event industry.
According to a news release from Logitix, the company works with more than 400 teams and properties from the MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL and NCAA, as well as other live event companies across the sports, music, performing arts and entertainment industries.
Having spent his entire career in the sports ticketing industry with a variety of professional teams, Apple said he is looking forward to developing long-term partnerships and enhance the skillsets of the people and process at the Logitix team.
Logitix is excited about having Apple on its team.
“Travis brings incredible experience and expertise across our diverse market segments,” Logitix CEO Stu Halberg said in the news release. “Having been a Logitix partner, a competitor and a decision-maker to many of Logitix’s clients, Travis understands the needs of our industry and the value that Logitix brings to any ticketing strategy.”
Before coming to Logitix, according to the news release, Apple was:
- Most recently the executive vice president for General Sports Worldwide, an executive search and training business.
- Prior to General Sports Worldwide, he was vice president of ticket sales and service for the Miami Marlins (MLB) and senior director of Team Marketing and Business Operations (TMBO), where he oversaw ticketing for all of the NBA, WNBA and G-League teams.
- Earlier in his career, Apple was vice president of ticket sales and service for the Phoenix Suns (NBA), Phoenix Mercury (WNBA), Arizona Rattlers (AFL) and Northern Arizona Suns (G-League).
- Before his time in Arizona, he was the senior director of ticket sales for the Orlando Magic (NBA) and the director of business development for the Pittsburgh Pirates (MLB).
- He started his career with the Atlanta Hawks (NBA), Atlanta Thrashers (NHL) and State Farm Arena.
His first real-life experience in the sports industry came at AU working at the university’s TV station, newspaper and radio station, where Apple said he made some of his best memories and some of his best friends.
Being able to gain practical experience and major in sports communication led the Delphos (Ohio) Jefferson High School graduate to Ashland University and eventually to Logitix.
Going above and beyond after AU, Apple wrote the book, “Hustle Your Way to $ucce$$ in Sports Sales,” and sits down with leaders in his industry to discuss their career paths and what it takes to be successful through his podcast, “52 Weeks of Hustle.”
“Being in the sports industry; I always felt there was a good opportunity to give back and help provide a blueprint to be elite in this industry,” Apple said. “I have always had a passion for writing as well as podcasting, so being able to provide both is an amazing experience.”
Much of that blueprint for anyone in any industry involves going above and beyond the call of duty (again, not the video game), according to Apple.
“The true call of duty of someone that is willing to do more than the next,” Apple added, “and is never satisfied in checking the box.”
