AU Choir, Chamber Singers performing at Winter Choral Concert Feb. 26
ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University’s annual Winter Choral Concert will feature the AU Choir and the AU Chamber Singers and will take place Sunday, Feb. 26, at Jack and Deb Miller Chapel (527 College Ave.). The performance is free and open to the public and starts at 4 p.m.
Rowland Blackley, director of choral activities and professor of music at AU, will be conducting both groups, while Deborah Logan will serve as the accompanying pianist.
The Chamber Singers, a select choir of 12, will perform “Fancies I,” a series of poems by William Shakespeare set to music by Sven-Eric Johanson.
The AU Choir, the principal choral ensemble on campus comprised of singers representing a variety of majors, is scheduled for a five-piece set. It will consist of “Sure on This Shining Night” by Morten Lauridsen; “Rejoice in the Lord,” written by an anonymous 16th century composer; “Wana Baraka,” a joyful Kenyan folk song arranged by Shawn Kirchner; “Ubi caritas,” a classic 20th century motet by Maurice Durufle; and “Dashing Away with the Smoothing Iron,” a traditional British folk song.
