AU on-campus Homecoming, Family Weekend cancelled
07/16/2020 ASHLAND, Ohio -- With growing concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic, Ashland University and the Ashland University Alumni Association have cancelled or postponed on-campus alumni events, including Homecoming and Family Weekend on Oct. 17.
After careful consideration, this difficult decision was made to help ensure the health and safety of our alumni as well as our students, faculty, and staff.
"Cancelling and postponing cornerstone campus events, especially Homecoming, is always a difficult decision, but we support the measures being taken to keep Ashland students, faculty, staff, and alumni safe,” said Ashland University Alumni Association President Doretha Pendleton (’85). “We look forward to welcoming alumni back to campus in the fall of 2021 when we will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of our first Homecoming. In the meantime, the AUAA Board of Directors will continue to work with the Office of Alumni Engagement on opportunities to connect alumni and celebrate our alma mater."
AU Vice President of Institutional Advancement Margaret Pomfret added, “Each year, we look forward to welcoming our alumni, parents, and friends to campus to celebrate the common bond we share, known as the Ashland Experience. This would have been the Class of 1970’s 50th class reunion. We would have been honoring former athletes and coaches at the Hall of Fame brunch. We would have been saying ‘thank you’ to our generous donors at the Founders Dinner, and students would have met the donors of their endowed scholarship. Although we are deeply disappointed we will not be able to honor and thank alumni and friends, we will celebrate next year, with even more anticipation, excitement and enthusiasm.”
“Until then, we will continue to adapt our approach and seek other ways to connect with our close-knit alumni community to strengthen those bonds.”
