08/26/20 ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Ashland University Coburn Art Gallery and the Department of Art and Design announce the opening of Women of Resilience: An invitational exhibition projecting aspects of women’s resilience through visual art, on view from Aug. 31- Oct. 1.

The exhibition was curated by Priscilla Roggenkamp, Patricia O’Neill Sacha and Judith Sterling and includes the works of 22 women artists: Clare Murray Adams, Ruthie Akuchie, Kathleen Browne, Heather Bullach, Sarah Curry, Annette Yoho Feltes, J. Leigh Garcia, Laura Kolinski-Schultz, Charmaine Lurch, Sarah McMahon, Erin Mulligan, Michelle Mulligan, Patricia O’Neill Sacha, Mary Kaye O’Neill, Cynthia Petry, Priscilla Roggenkamp, Judith Sterling, Sylvia Treisel, Gail Trunick, Michele Waalkes, Gwen Waight, Jo Westfall, Gail Wetherell Sack, Laurel Winters and Kiana Ziegler.

“One hundred years ago, Aug. 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment was ratified, securing for women in the United States the right to vote.  Just one hundred years ago!” reads the statement from Roggenkamp. “Celebrations commemorating this event have been taking place all over the country.  Interested in doing our part, Patricia, Judy and I worked to bring together selected women artists to respond to the idea of women and resilience.

“Twenty-two women joined us in this exhibition sharing previous works that fit the theme or newly conceived works that built upon threads that were already present in their artwork.  In this election season, this anniversary reminds us all of the right, the privilege and the responsibility to vote.  We hope you all do your part.”

The Coburn Art Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and is free and open to the public. New COVID-19 safety protocols include a maximum of 15 visitors in the gallery at one time and groups no larger than 5. Face masks must be worn at all the times on the Ashland University campus, including outside.
