Ashland University Spring Choral Concert to be held at Brookside Park
04/27/2021 ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University’s Spring Choral Concert will be performed Sunday, May 2, at 4 p.m. in the Myers Memorial Bandshell at Brookside Park in Ashland.
The concert is free and no tickets are required, though audience members will be expected to wear face coverings and practice social distancing. The performance will go on rain or shine.
Because the COVID-19 restrictions, this is the University’s only live choral performance this year and will feature the University Choir, Women’s Chorus and Chamber Singers.
The ensembles will perform a variety of musical styles, with the Chamber Singers offering “Stories and Situations”: Randall Thompson’s settings of Robert Frost’s poetry, including “The Road Not Taken”, some Romantic part-songs and a new jazz tune
The Women’s Chorus will center its performance around the theme, “Music of Celebration and Blessing” with “Astonishing,” from the Broadway show “Little Women”, Leavitt’s “Festival Sanctus”, Martin’s “Celebrate Music” and “An Irish Blessing”.
University Choir’s selections will celebrate “Music of Inspiration and Hope”, with a spiritual by Moses Hogan and a gospel tune by Keith Hampton, two Renaissance motets, the poetry of Langston Hughes, Emily Dickinson, e. e. cummings and Euan Tait and the music of Palestrina, Clausen, Whitacre, Arnesen, Persichetti.
Conductors will be Professor of Music Rowland Blackley, and Women’s Chorus director and staff accompanist Deborah Logan. Susan Gregg is the pianist for all groups.
