  • Author of four books: God's Own Party: The Making of the Christian Right (Oxford University Press, 2010); Defenders of the Unborn: The Pro-Life Movement before Roe v. Wade (Oxford University Press, 2016); The Election of the Evangelical: Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, and the Presidential Contest of 1976 (University Press of Kansas, 2020); The Politics of the Cross: A Christian Alternative to Partisanship (Eerdmans, 2021).

  • Favorite thing about Ashland University: I love the small, seminar-style classes and the opportunity to have engaging intellectual discussions with students who are curious about the world and eager to explore important ideas.
  • Little-known fact: Even though I moved to Ohio from elsewhere, I actually have deep Ohio family roots. My great-great grandfather was mayor of Delphos, Ohio.
